HALIFAX, NS – Halifax International Security Forum announced today that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) will receive its prestigious Builder Award during a gala celebration at Pier 21 tonight.
“The Builder Award recognizes individuals or groups who have been instrumental to the success of the Forum and are tireless advocates for global security,” said Peter Van Praagh, President of the Halifax International Security Forum.
“NATO has been an integral supporter of Halifax from the very beginning.” “NATO is also constantly evolving to adapt to changing threats. The Halifax International Security Forum is an important source of information and a valuable testing ground for new ideas,” added Van Praagh. “We are honoured that His Excellency Mr. Jens Stoltenberg, the Secretary General of NATO, is here to personally accept the Builder Award on behalf of the organization.”
“The Halifax International Security Forum has always gathered top thinkers from Canada, North America and around the world to debate the toughest security challenges openly and deeply. That is why NATO has always supported the Forum,” said Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO. “Today, that discussion is more important than ever, which is why I am pleased to be here today to participate in person.”
Established in 2012, the Builder Award is bestowed upon individuals or groups that have made a special contribution to ensuring that the Halifax International Security Forum continues to further its mission of advancing strategic cooperation among democracies.

2012 – General Walter Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff of Canada
