FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, DC – For the first time ever, HFX today released two contrasting agendas for its influential November Halifax International Security Forum.

“This November is a hinge of history,” HFX President Peter Van Praagh said.  “Democracy is facing a multi-front attack: in Europe, in the Middle East, in East Asia and from some individuals and political parties inside democratic countries now challenging long-established rules of democracy itself.”

“The Halifax International Security Forum agenda is meant to spark conversations and is always deliberately provocative,” Van Praagh said.  “This year we released two contrasting agendas to highlight the potential impact of the choices to be made in the coming days, weeks and months.  Because everything is at stake.”

“When the world’s democracies meet at Halifax in November, we can choose unity and stand together to defeat Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, leading to a new era of optimism around the world,” Van Praagh said.  “Or we can choose division and a dark, dangerous era of more violence and more war.  The future is up to us.”

Halifax International Security Forum is convened by HFX, an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, DC that is dedicated to strengthening strategic cooperation among the world’s democracies.  HFX believes that true security is achieved only when people enjoy the benefits of democracy, leading in turn to economic opportunity and lasting peace.

The 16th Halifax International Security Forum takes place November 22-24 in Nova Scotia, Canada.  The full and final topical agenda complete with more than 30 off-the-record sessions will be released closer to the Forum.
