HALIFAX INTERNATIONAL SECURITY FORUM RELEASES 2022 AGENDA

HALIFAX, NS — HFX, host of the annual Halifax International Security Forum, the leading security meeting for democracies, today released its agenda along with the names of some of its prominent participants.

The 2022 Halifax International Security Forum will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, from November 18th to the 20th. Canada’s Minister of National Defence Anita Anand will open the Forum on Friday. U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III will deliver remarks on Saturday.

United States Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and United States Senator James Risch (R-ID) will once again lead a strong Senate delegation.

The most up-to-date version of the agenda will be available on our website, but among the plenary highlights are:

  • And So, Where is the Security? – the question asked to the United Nations Security Council by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the unmovable hero of Ukraine. Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence, Canada; Alar Karis, President, Estonia; Jeanne Shaheen, Senator, United States; and Dolkun Isa, President of the World Uyghur Congress will take part in this panel.
  • Cold Weather, High Prices, Long War: Finding Our Winter Resilience with Rob Bauer, Chair of the Military Committee, NATO; Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, 4th President of the Republic of Croatia; and Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister, European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine.
  • The Disinformation Nations: Kidnapping Our Citizens, Corrupting Our Officials, Stealing Our Stuff with Chris Coons, Senator, United States; Yevhen Fedchenko, Editor-in-Chief of StopFake, Ukraine; Yasmin Green, CEO of Jigsaw, United States; Andrew Shearer, Director General of the Office of National Intelligence, Australia; and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, National Leader of Belarus / Head of the United Transitional Cabinet.

“We’re honoured this year to be joined more than two dozen participants from Ukraine,” said HFX President Peter Van Praagh. “Their presence demonstrates the power of democracy and the fact that freedom-loving people will never yield to brute force.”

Every November for the past 14 years, HFX has brought together leaders and influencers from over 80 democratic countries around the world to tackle shared challenges and common goals.

Along with the plenaries and presentations, the Halifax International Security Forum will recognize the 2020 and 2022 Peace With Women Fellows and award the John McCain Prize for Courage in Public Service which will be presented by Mr. Jack McCain.
