WASHINGTON, DC – Halifax International Security Forum announced today that the 9th annual Halifax International Security Forum will take place November 17-19, 2017 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The annual Forum brings together individuals who are on the ground facing consequential local threats, writers who challenge and influence the world’s thinking on security, and democratic decision-makers from over 70 countries who make the tough choices.

“In this time of immense global transition, I am proud that Halifax has become an important platform for the international community to develop constructive solutions to the world’s challenges. Not only do the conversations and relationships built at Halifax underscore the importance of democracy, but they also serve a strategic purpose for the global security dialogue over the coming year,” said Peter Van Praagh, President of the Halifax International Security Forum.

The 2017 Forum will mark both Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation and the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Halifax Explosion that destroyed much of the city. The largest man-made explosion prior to the atomic bomb formed an unbreakable bond between Canadians and their American neighbors who rushed to help.

Halifax International Security Forum is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, DC. The Forum is made possible by the generous support of its partners, including the Government of Canada and the Halifax Canada Club.

The 8th Halifax International Security Forum took place November 18-20, 2016. For a recap of the 2016 Forum, please click here.
