FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
21 NOVEMBER 2014
WASHINGTON, DC –The world’s leading thinkers on security and international affairs are meeting at the Halifax International Security Forum in Halifax, Canada against the backdrop of serious global security issues which include efforts in Iraq, Russian activities in Eastern Ukraine, the proliferation of nuclear technologies, the spread of Ebola and the rise of homegrown terror.
The 6th annual Halifax International Security Forum brings together individuals who are on the ground facing consequential local threats, writers who challenge and influence the world’s thinking on security and decision-makers who make the tough choices.
“It is vital for democratic partners to strengthen their strategic cooperation,” said Peter Van Praagh, President of the Halifax International Security Forum. “At Halifax, our unique and unscripted format creates conditions where knowledge and experience come together to create new insights that help us face today’s threats and challenges.”
Recently released data by the Halifax International Security Forum and Ipsos, the leading global market and opinion research firm, shows global citizens see the world as a more dangerous place for both armed conflict and epidemics. Most global citizens also believe the US has a special responsibility to assist countries when confronted by military aggressors.
Three hundred participants from 60 countries, including the largest US congressional delegation to set foot in Canada, led by Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), and international security leaders from the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East will join Canada’s political and military leadership and American senior military officers to have a real conversation about creating a more stable, secure and peaceful world.
In addition to unscripted international security discussions, Halifax features an opening dinner at Pier 21, events along the Halifax harbor and an indispensable meeting place for nation-to-nation discussions.
The Halifax International Security Forum is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization based in Washington, DC. The conference is made possible by the generous support of our sponsors, including the Government of Canada, the Halifax Canada Club and our media partner Foreign Affairs who share the vision that a more peaceful, cooperative and secure world is achievable.
