February’s HFX Taipei Links Democracy With Security

Washington, DC – HFX, the Washington, DC-based organization that convenes the annual Halifax International Security Forum, today published its agenda for the first-of-its-kind event in Taiwan to be held February 20-21, 2025.

Over the past 16 years, Halifax International Security Forum has become the world’s most consequential meeting because it directly links democracy with shared security.  Now, and for the very first time, HFX is proud to expand the Forum beyond North America to highlight Taiwan’s thriving democracy for global leaders.

HFX Taipei convenes one month after Donald Trump’s inauguration as President of the United States and will mark three years since Russia’s criminal and inhumane full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

“While the security challenges ahead are too big for any single country to solve alone, there is no challenge that can’t be met when the world’s democracies work together,” said HFX president Peter Van Praagh.  “It is vital to global security that we come together now to demonstrate democracy’s enduring strength.”

With the generous support of UMC founder Robert Tsao, HFX Taipei will follow the distinctive HFX meeting format that includes short films, on-the-record plenary sessions and smaller off-the-record exchanges that promote important, candid and strategic discussions.
