WASHINGTON, DC—Halifax International Security Forum was pleased to host General John F. Kelly, Commander of the United States Southern Command, on Thursday, July 23 for a private, off-the-record briefing with members of the Halifax Agenda Working Group.
The discussion marked the beginning of a series of exclusive briefings by Halifax International Security Forum’s most senior participants to inform the Halifax Agenda Working Group on the issues that government and military leaders judge as the most relevant and urgent security threats that must be considered for the agenda of the 2015 November Forum.
General Kelly, who spoke at the 2014 Halifax International Security Forum, most recently served as the Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Secretaries Robert Gates and Leon Panetta before taking command of United States Southern Command in November 2012.
As its name suggests, the Halifax Agenda Working Group is composed of global experts from outside of government and advises the Halifax International Security Forum on issues that it should address at its annual Forum each November.
The 2015 Halifax International Security Forum will be held November 20-22 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
