A GLOBAL CONVERSATION: LEADERS OF THE 2013 HALIFAX INTERNATIONAL SECURITY FORUM

Washington, DC – Democratic leaders from around the world, including US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, a large US congressional delegation led by Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Tim Kaine (D-VA), a Canadian delegation that includes Minister Rob Nicholson, Minister Peter MacKay, Minister John Baird and Minister Steven Blaney, military leaders, business leaders, security experts and members of the media, are joining together to discuss international peace and security at the 2013 Halifax International Security Forum, held 22 – 24 November in Halifax, Canada.
Joined by Minister Hinzpeter (Chile), Minister Wammen (Denmark), Minister Ya’alon (Israel), Minister Hennis-Plasschaert (Netherlands), Minister Shtayyeh (Palestinian Authority), Minister Jakič (Slovenia), Minister Morenés (Spain), Minister Murrison (United Kingdom), and international leaders including former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and leadership from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the 2013 Halifax conversation focuses on international security challenges faced by democratic nations.

The 2013 Halifax International Security Forum will begin with an opening address by Secretary Hagel on Friday, November 22. Later that evening, Peter Mansbridge, the Canadian Broadcast Corporation’s Chief Correspondent and anchor of The National will deliver a special keynote address commemorating the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy’s assassination. The 2013 Halifax International Security Forum features eight unscripted on-the-record plenary sessions, 28 off-the-record sessions, a five kilometre run around the historic Halifax harbor and numerous bilateral meetings between the most relevant democratic decision-makers.
The Halifax conversation also includes senior representatives from the following nations:
Afghanistan, Colombia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Egypt, Finland, France, India, Jamaica, Korea, Lithuania, Mongolia, Pakistan, Philippines, Senegal, Sweden and Turkey.
