INTERN, INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS PARTICIPANT MANAGER

HFX is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan organization best known for its annual Halifax International Security Forum.  In addition to the flagship November Forum that brings the democratic world’s security leaders to Halifax, Canada, HFX’s programs include the Peace With Women Fellowship and Stand Together On China.

HFX seeks highly motivated candidates for an internship beginning in June 2022.  The internship will provide exposure to a range of pressing international security issues and first-hand experience working in a dynamic international security and foreign policy organization.

HFX Interns, called International Relations Participant Managers, are key members of the HFX team.  They play a vital role in preparing and carrying out the organization’s signature annual conference, as well as supporting HFX’s global programming throughout the year.  Interns are responsible for representing the organization to the global democratic security community and for facilitating the daily operations of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Researching potential participants and speakers for the 2022 Halifax International Security Forum;
  • Sending and tracking Forum invitations;
  • Serving as the main point of contact for international military leaders, government officials, civil society leaders, journalists and other senior figures;
  • Traveling to Halifax, Canada to help implement the 2022 Halifax International Security Forum;
  • Helping to maintain HFX’s database of contacts;
  • Assisting in website and social media management;
  • Following current events in international security and foreign policy;
  • Providing research and administrative support.

This internship will begin in June 2022 and continue through February 2023, with travel to Halifax in November for the annual Forum.  Applicants should be available for a full-time schedule.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic commitment to HFX’s mission;
  • Excellent organizational skills and impeccable attention to detail;
  • Outstanding written and oral communications skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of officials and staff across different cultures;
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a team environment;
  • Strong academic record— recent college graduates preferred;
  • Willingness and ability to travel abroad;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace;
  • Previous experience with Salesforce, MailChimp, WordPress, Twitter, and Facebook are preferred;
  • Familiarity with Apple products is a plus.

Internship Dates, Duration, and Compensation:

Start date:  June 1, 2022
End date:  February 28, 2023
Time commitment:  Full-time schedule, plus travel to Halifax for one week in November
Compensation:  $3,000 stipend per month

Please Note:  The Internship is based at HFX’s Dupont Circle, Washington DC headquarters.  Interns must be willing to relocate to the Washington DC area by the beginning date of the Internship, June 1, 2022.
